Description

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH Specialist)
Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Long-term until July 2026
Daily Rate: £96 – £120 (dependent on experience)

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a passion for supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Educate Staffing is currently working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive school in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH for a long-term position starting in September 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a rewarding environment where your efforts will make a real and lasting impact in the lives of young people who need it most.

About the School

Our partner school is a forward-thinking and inclusive setting with a strong commitment to supporting students with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Staff work collaboratively to provide a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment tailored to help every child succeed—both academically and personally. The school values the input of support staff and invests in ongoing professional development to ensure their team feels confident, supported, and empowered.

Located in the heart of Hatfield, the school is easily accessible by public transport and benefits from modern facilities, outdoor learning spaces, and a culture that prioritises well-being and growth.

About the Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual students and small groups to provide both academic and emotional support. Your role will involve:

  • Offering 1:1 support and small-group interventions for students with SEMH needs.

  • Promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behavioural strategies.

  • Supporting teachers in the delivery of differentiated lessons and behavioural interventions.

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students to help boost self-esteem and engagement.

  • Assisting with the implementation of personalised learning plans in collaboration with the SENDCo and class teachers.

  • Encouraging independence while offering the right level of guidance and reassurance.

  • Providing consistent support throughout the school day to create stability and structure for the pupils.

This long-term role will run until the end of the academic year in July 2026, with the potential for extension or progression for the right candidate.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about inclusive education and has the determination to make a difference in young lives. The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs in an educational or similar setting.

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with pupils facing emotional challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a wider school team.

  • A proactive, flexible attitude with a strong commitment to safeguarding and student well-being.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, HLTA status, or SEN training) are desirable but not essential—experience and the right mindset are most important.

Why Join Educate Staffing?

As a trusted and experienced education recruitment agency, Educate Staffing is committed to supporting both our candidates and partner schools. When you work with us, you’ll benefit from:

  • A dedicated consultant to guide and support you throughout your placement.

  • Access to a wide range of long-term and permanent education roles.

  • Opportunities for ongoing training and CPD.

  • A strong commitment to your career progression and job satisfaction.
