About the Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant specialising in Science, you will support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and potentially Key Stage 5), working closely with the Science department. You will help deliver engaging lessons, provide targeted academic support, and inspire students to develop curiosity and confidence in scientific subjects.Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of Science lessons alongside class teachers (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for students needing additional help
- Assist in the preparation of lesson materials, experiments, and classroom resources
- Support safe setup and supervision of practical experiments and laboratory work
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers
- Encourage student engagement, curiosity, and confidence in Science
- Support students of all abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN)
- Assist with classroom and behaviour management
- Contribute to revision sessions, intervention groups, and after-school support where required
- Ensure adherence to health & safety procedures within the laboratory environment
- Uphold school safeguarding and behaviour policies
Requirements
- A degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related subject) – essential
- Strong subject knowledge across at least one scientific discipline
- A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A proactive, flexible, and supportive approach to working with students
- Previous experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)
- A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one prior to starting)
