Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Start Date: ImmediateAbout the Role
We are seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant and inclusive school in Islington. This full-time position involves supporting children with a range of special educational needs, ensuring they receive the tailored support required to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCo, therapists, and families to provide consistent, high-quality support in both classroom and small-group settings.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in SEN support, or for individuals looking to progress their career within education and additional needs. You must hold an enhanced DBS (on the update service or willing to apply immediately).
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a variety of SEN needs, including autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, speech and language delays, global developmental delay, learning difficulties, social and emotional needs, and sensory processing challenges.
Implement personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo.
Assist pupils in developing communication, social skills, self-regulation and independence in line with their EHCP targets.
Support students during lessons by adapting tasks, breaking down instructions, and using appropriate teaching resources.
Foster a calm, nurturing, and structured learning environment that promotes pupil wellbeing and engagement.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to plan, review, and evaluate intervention strategies and pupil progress.
Provide accurate, detailed observations and contribute to reports and assessments as needed.
Assist with preparing materials, resources, and maintaining classroom organisation.
Support pupils during break times, lunch duties, and transitions around the school as required.
Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality, and all school policies at all times.
Requirements
Enhanced DBS (on the update service or willingness to obtain one before starting).
Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs in a school or care environment.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils.
Understanding of SEN strategies, inclusive practice, and positive behaviour support.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Flexible, proactive, and responsive to the changing needs of pupils.
Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and equal opportunities.
Relevant SEN-related training or a Level 2+ qualification in education or childcare is an advantage.
