Job Type: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Location: Hackney
Salary: £96–£110 Per DayThe Role: Behavioural Support Assistant – Hackney
We are seeking a resilient and experienced Behavioural Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Hackney, working closely with pupils who present with severe challenging behaviour. This is a key support role, providing consistent 1:1 and small group support to students with complex emotional and behavioural needs, including those with autism, ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
This position is well-suited to someone who is confident, proactive, and thrives in high-intensity environments. You will be instrumental in helping to implement behaviour support plans and fostering a structured, therapeutic setting that promotes pupil safety, emotional regulation, and academic engagement.
A Behavioural Support Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support to pupils with severe behavioural and emotional needs
- Assist with the implementation of individual behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and therapeutic strategies
- Support de-escalation and emotional regulation, using positive behaviour techniques under the guidance of teaching staff and therapists
- Maintain clear and accurate records related to behaviour, progress, and incidents
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals to support a holistic approach
- Help create a safe, predictable, and engaging learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care and other practical needs as required
Qualifications and requirements – Behavioural Support Assistant – Hackney
- Proven experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour and/or SEMH
- Confidence and resilience in managing behavioural incidents safely and effectively
- Training or knowledge of behaviour support strategies such as Team Teach, MAPA, or PRICE is highly desirable
- Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of consistency and boundaries in SEN settings
