Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – West Kilburn
Location: West Kilburn, London
Start Date: Monday 13th October
Contract: 12-week placement (with potential to extend)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experienceWe are working in partnership with a friendly and inclusive primary school in West Kilburn who are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from Monday 13th October. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a varied role that combines classroom support, lesson cover, and small-group interventions.
The school prides itself on creating a supportive and nurturing environment for both pupils and staff. As an HLTA, you will play an important role in ensuring continuity of learning, raising pupil attainment, and providing high-quality support across Key Stage 2.
The Role
The successful candidate will take on a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Providing classroom cover for Year 3 and Year 4 pupils when required.
Delivering PPA cover and other planned teaching sessions under the guidance of the class teacher.
Supporting the delivery of engaging and inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
Leading small-group and one-to-one interventions, including phonics, pre-teaching, guided reading, and targeted support in core subjects.
Supporting Speech and Language interventions (previous experience in this area would be highly desirable).
Accompanying pupils and staff on weekly trips to the local swimming pool, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children at all times.
Contributing to the wider life of the school and working collaboratively with teachers and support staff to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must:
Hold recognised HLTA status.
Have proven classroom experience, ideally within Key Stage 2, and be confident in leading whole-class learning.
Be skilled in planning, delivering, and evaluating small-group interventions.
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
Be adaptable, proactive, and able to manage behaviour effectively within the classroom.
Have a genuine passion for education and supporting children to reach their full potential.
