Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Location: Sutton
Salary: £96–£110 Per DayThe Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Sutton
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting students across Primary and Secondary stages in Sutton, working with young people who have a wide range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour, and complex learning or emotional needs.
The role involves both 1:1 and small group support, helping students engage with learning, manage behaviours, regulate emotions, and develop key social and life skills.
This position is ideal for someone with extensive SEN experience, who thrives in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment, and who is passionate about supporting the progress and wellbeing of young people with additional needs.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to the needs of students with autism, ADHD, and complex behavioural or emotional needs
- Support students in the classroom and during off-site activities or interventions
- Assist with managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation strategies and consistent routines
- Implement individualised education and behaviour plans developed with SENCOs and specialist staff
- Encourage the development of life skills, independence, and positive social interaction
- Track and monitor pupil progress, reporting regularly to teachers and parents/carers
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment at all times
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Sutton
- Extensive experience working with children or young people with SEN, including autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour, and complex needs
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, confident approach
- A high level of emotional intelligence, patience, and resilience
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and SEND best practices
