Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Location: Redbridge
Salary: £96–£120 Per DayThe Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Redbridge
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting students in a secondary school setting, supporting students with autism, high support needs, and complex medical or learning difficulties. While these students are in secondary school, many are working at a primary academic level and require a high level of individualised care and structured educational support.
This role is ideal for someone with previous Health Care Assistant experience, particularly those confident in providing both learning support and personal or medical care. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and therapy teams to support student progress and wellbeing.
The role involves a combination of one-to-one and small group support, including helping students manage medical routines, sensory needs, and communication challenges, while also promoting social skills and independence.

A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for Secondary students with autism, complex learning, and medical needs
- Support with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and mobility assistance where necessary
- Assist with classroom learning, sensory regulation, and emotional development
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and therapists to implement personalised support strategies
- Foster confidence, independence, and positive interactions
- Monitor and record student progress and communicate updates with staff and parents/carers
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Redbridge
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, preferably within a school or care setting
- Health Care Assistant experience or experience with personal care is desirable
- A compassionate, calm, and proactive approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Confidence in supporting students working at a primary level within a secondary school
