Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Location: Newham
Salary: £96–£105 Per DayThe Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Newham
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting pupils across the primary phase in a mainstream setting, working with children who have a range of needs including autism, complex learning difficulties, ADHD and global delay traits. Many pupils require structured, consistent support to access learning, manage behaviour, and build confidence and independence.
The role involves working one-to-one and in small groups, helping children engage with classroom activities, regulate emotions, and develop social and communication skills. A key part of this role includes providing personal care, such as toileting, hygiene support, and mobility assistance when required.
You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to implement personalised strategies and ensure each child receives the care and attention they need to thrive.

A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to the needs of primary-aged pupils with autism and complex needs
- Assist with classroom learning, behaviour regulation, and social interaction
- Support children with personal care, including toileting and hygiene routines
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver individualised strategies
- Encourage independence, emotional development, and positive peer relationships
- Record and track progress, feeding back to staff and parents/carers as needed
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Newham
- Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly in a primary setting
- Confidence and sensitivity when assisting with personal care needs
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
