Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am – 4pm
Location: Merton
Salary: £96-£110 Per dayThe Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Merton
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be working with students in Year 7 and Year 8 within a secondary school setting, supporting those with autism, high needs, and complex learning difficulties. The students are working at a primary academic level and require personalised, structured support to access the curriculum and develop socially and emotionally.
The role involves working one-to-one and in small groups to help students engage with learning, manage sensory and behavioural needs, and build confidence both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff, the SENCO, and therapists to implement individualised strategies and ensure consistent, compassionate support for each student.

A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to the needs of students in Year 7 and Year 8 with autism and complex needs
• Assist with classroom learning, sensory regulation, and social interaction
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised strategies
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive relationships
• Track and record progress, feeding back to teachers and parents/carers
