Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am – 4pm
Location: Islington
Salary: £96–£105 Per dayThe Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Islington
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, and other associated learning needs within a mainstream primary school in Islington. Working across different year groups, you will help pupils access the curriculum through one-to-one and small group support, implementing tailored interventions and assisting in the classroom under the guidance of experienced teaching staff.
You will join a supportive and inclusive school community committed to providing high-quality education for all learners, working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and specialist staff to ensure every child can reach their full potential both academically and socially.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
• Support students with Autism, ADHD, and associated behavioural and learning needs
• Deliver targeted interventions in areas such as English, Maths, and Social Skills
• Modify classroom tasks and activities to suit individual learning styles and abilities
• Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation in line with the school’s behaviour policy
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to foster confidence and engagement
• Monitor, record and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and engagement
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and outside agencies
• Promote pupil independence and personal development throughout the school dayQualifications and Requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Islington
• Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly Autism and ADHD
• Confidence working one-to-one and with small groups in a mainstream classroom setting
• Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) is essential
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach to support and behaviour management
