Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am -4pm
Location: Newham
Salary: £96-£105 Per Day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Newham
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working with pupils across different year groups across a Primary School in Newham, supporting children with a wide variety of needs including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs. Your role will involve tailoring your support to meet the unique requirements of each pupil, whether working one-to-one, with small groups, or helping within the classroom setting.
You will be instrumental in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their personal and academic goals. This includes supporting with classroom activities, adapting resources, encouraging positive behaviour, and building strong, trusting relationships with the children you work with. No two days will be the same, and your flexibility and creativity will play a key part in helping each child thrive
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
- Adapt resources and activities to meet pupils’ individual needs.
- Support pupils in developing social skills, confidence, and independence.
- Encourage positive behaviour and use strategies to support emotional regulation.
- Supervise and support pupils during classroom and break times.
- Keep accurate records of pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers and the SEN team.
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children.
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Newham
- Experience working with children or young people with autism and challenging behaviour
- A patient, nurturing, and non-judgmental attitude
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
