Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am -4pm
Location: Sutton
Salary: £96-£105 per day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant –Sutton
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils with Autism and ADHD thrive both academically and socially. You will work closely with classroom teachers to deliver tailored support, ensuring that lessons are accessible, engaging, and suited to each child’s individual needs. This may involve providing one-to-one support, assisting small groups, or helping pupils stay focused and confident within whole-class settings.
The role goes beyond academic support, where you will also develop pupils’ social skills, emotional wellbeing, and independence. Using positive behaviour strategies, you will encourage resilience and self-regulation, helping pupils manage challenges and celebrate their achievements. Collaboration is central to this role, and you will work alongside teachers, SENCOs, parents, and outside professionals to create the best possible outcomes for the children you support.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Supporting pupils with Autism and ADHD in their learning and development, both in and out of the classroom.
- Assisting teachers in creating engaging, tailored lessons and activities.
- Helping pupils build confidence, independence, and social skills.
- Managing behaviour positively and calmly, using strategies to support focus and self-regulation.
- Working closely with teachers, parents, and the SEN team to ensure each child thrives.
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Sutton
- Experience in a similar role
- Experience working with SEND needs
- Enhanced DBS is required
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
