Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Job Type: 8:30am – 4pm

Location: Southwark

Salary: £96-£105

The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Southwark  

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support to pupils with Autism across the school. You’ll play a vital role in helping children access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.

Whether working one-to-one or within small groups, your calm and consistent approach will help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where every child can flourish. This is a deeply rewarding role ideal for someone who wants to make a real difference.

A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:

  • Provide one-on-one assistance to students with Autism
  • Lead structured interventions to improve student attainment and communication skills
  • Adapt teaching materials and methods to suit individual learning styles and abilities
  • Promote positive behaviour and help manage challenging behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Provide emotional support and encourage social interaction.
  • Observe and record progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Report concerns to the teacher or SENCO
  • Encourage independence and build student confidence

Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Southwark

  • Experience in a similar role/ Leading Interventions
  • Experience working with SEND needs, particularly Autism
  • Enhanced DBS is required
  • Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
