Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am -4pm
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Salary: £96-£105 per day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant –Barking and Dagenham
As a 1:1 Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with an individual student who requires additional support to access learning. This is a highly rewarding role where you’ll provide personalised assistance, adapt learning materials, and use creative strategies to help them succeed both academically and socially. You’ll also play a vital part in supporting their emotional wellbeing, encouraging independence, and celebrating progress every step of the way. This position involves working hand-in-hand with teachers, the SENCO, and parents to ensure a consistent and nurturing approach.

A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide personalised support to an individual student with additional needs, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
- Adapt and differentiate learning materials to suit the student’s specific learning style, pace, and abilities.
- Support social, emotional, and behavioural development, encouraging positive interactions with peers and staff.
- Assist with communication needs, using visual aids, assistive technology, or alternative communication methods.
- Implement strategies and interventions recommended by the SENCO, external specialists, or Educational Health Care Plans
- Monitor and record progress, sharing observations with teachers, SENCO, and parents to ensure consistent support.
- Provide in class support during lessons, group work, and independent activities.
- Encourage independence in learning and everyday tasks while offering reassurance and guidance.
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Barking and Dagenham
- Experience in a similar role
- Experience working with SEND needs
- Enhanced DBS is required
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
