Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am -4pm, September Start
Location: Kingston Upon Thames
Salary: £96-£105 Per Day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Kingston Upon Thames
In this vital role, you will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, and academic guidance. Your focus will be on building trust, promoting independence, and creating a structured and supportive learning environment tailored to individual needs. You will play a key role in helping students feel safe, understood, and empowered to succeed both academically and emotionally. This is a challenging yet deeply rewarding position that offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact in the lives of children who need it most.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Support pupils with autism and complex needs to access learning in a calm and positive way
- Implement personalised strategies, behaviour support plans, and communication aids
- De-escalate behaviours using a trauma-informed and proactive approach
- Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- Work collaboratively with teachers and outside professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality support
- Encourage social interaction, emotional regulation, and participation in classroom and school activities
- Assist with the development of social stories and visual timetables to support transitions and routine
- Provide personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times
- Monitor and record pupil progress and behaviour, contributing to EHCP reviews and target setting
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Kingston Upon Thames
- Experience working with children or young people with autism and challenging behaviour
- A patient, nurturing, and non-judgmental attitude
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
