Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am -4pm
Location: Sutton
Salary: £96-£105 Per day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Sutton
As a Special Needs Assistant, you will work closely with a student who requires additional help with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Your role will be to create a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment that enables the student to thrive both academically and personally.
You will help the student navigate daily routines, manage their emotions, and develop positive behaviours through clear guidance and structured support. A key part of the role is building a respectful and trusting relationship, while reinforcing boundaries and helping the student feel safe and valued.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide one-on-one assistance to a student with special educational needs with regular behaviour outbursts
- Lead Social, Maths and English interventions with groups of SEND students
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to suit individual learning styles and abilities
- Promote positive behaviour and help manage challenging behaviour in line with school policies.
- Provide emotional support and encourage social interaction.
- Observe and record progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Report concerns to the teacher or SENCO
- Encourage independence and build student confidence
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Sutton
- Experience in a similar role
- Experience working with SEND needs particularly Challenging Behaviour
- Enhanced DBS is required
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
