Description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Mainstream Primary School (Westminster)
Location: Westminster, Central London
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Full-time, ongoing (long-term placement)

About the Role

Educate Staffing is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mainstream primary school in Westminster. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for working with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, learning delays, or social/emotional needs.

You will work closely with the SENCO, class teacher, and wider support team to provide targeted assistance to pupils who require additional support to access the curriculum and thrive in the school environment. The school is committed to inclusion and offers a welcoming, nurturing atmosphere for staff and students alike.

This is a full-time role starting immediately with the potential for long-term progression.

Key Responsibilities

1:1 & Small Group SEN Support

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with a range of SEN needs.

  • Deliver interventions such as phonics, speech & language tasks, or social-skills sessions.

  • Help pupils regulate emotions and develop confidence and independence.

Classroom Support

  • Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons to meet the child’s individual learning plan.

  • Modify resources and activities to ensure accessibility and engagement.

  • Promote inclusive learning and encourage participation in all classroom activities.

Behaviour & Emotional Support

  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to foster a safe learning environment.

  • Help pupils develop coping strategies, resilience, and positive social interactions.

General Duties

  • Keep accurate notes on progress and challenges to report back to the SENCO and teaching team.

  • Support with classroom organisation and resource preparation.

  • Supervise pupils during playtimes, transitions, and off-task moments.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based experience preferred).

  • Patience, empathy, resilience, and a calm, supportive approach to behaviour.

  • Ability to follow support plans, take direction, and work independently when needed.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through the agency.

  • Right to work in the UK.

Benefits

  • Competitive daily rate paid weekly through the agency.

  • Opportunity to work in a highly supportive and inclusive Westminster school.

  • Access to free training and CPD programmes.

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education consultant.

  • Potential for long-term or permanent opportunities within our partner schools.

How to Apply

If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with SEN and can start immediately, we’d love to hear from you!
