Location: South West London
Salary: £96-£110 Per day
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – South West London
As a Supply Special Needs Teaching Assistant, no two days are the same. You may be placed in different schools, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health needs. Your day could involve working one-to-one with a child, supporting small groups, or assisting the whole class alongside the teacher. You’ll be expected to quickly adapt to new routines, build positive relationships, and help children access learning through tailored support and adapted resources. Flexibility is key, as you may work across different year groups and settings, but every day offers the chance to make a real difference in helping children feel included, confident, and supported.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for children with a range of additional needs
- Assisting the class teacher with learning activities and classroom management
- Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and social skills
- Adapting resources and learning materials to meet individual needs
- Supporting children with personal care, mobility, or sensory needs (where required)
- Encouraging positive behaviour and using de-escalation strategies when needed
- Supporting pupils during transitions between activities and around the school
- Promoting inclusion and ensuring all pupils can fully participate in lessons and activities
- Assisting with record-keeping, observations, and feedback to teachers about pupil progress
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – South West London
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN
- A positive, patient, and empathetic approach
- Flexibility and willingness to work across different year groups
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
