Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8:30am - 4pm, September Start
Location: Wandsworth
Salary: £96-£110
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Wandsworth
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with significant physical needs, ensuring they can access learning in a safe, dignified, and inclusive environment. Your daily responsibilities will include providing personal care, assisting with feeding and toileting, and supporting pupils with mobility using appropriate moving and handling techniques. Working closely with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team, you will help implement care plans and learning activities tailored to each child’s individual needs. This role requires compassion, patience, and a proactive attitude, with a strong focus on promoting independence and wellbeing. Full training in personal care and moving and handling will be provided to the right candidate.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Support the learning and development of pupils with visual, sensory, and physical impairments
- Assist with adapted learning resources, including braille, large print, tactile objects, and visual aids
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to reinforce learning and encourage engagement
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, care staff, therapists, and external professionals
- Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and mobility support as required
- Facilitate communication using a variety of specialist strategies
- Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, promoting positive social interaction and safe play
- Contribute to planning, assessments, and reviews by observing and recording pupil progress
- Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
- Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and behaviour management policies and procedures at all times
- Participate in training and professional development, including manual handling and communication support techniques
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Wandsworth
- Experience in a SEN role
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS is required
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
