Job Type: 8:30am – 4pm, September Start
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Salary: £96-£105
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Barking and Dagenham
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team, supporting children with autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for helping children thrive. You’ll work closely with class teachers and therapists to provide one-to-one and small group support, using tailored strategies to promote engagement, emotional regulation, and learning. Patience, creativity, and a positive approach are key, as you'll help pupils navigate their daily routines, develop social skills, and reach their individual goals. A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide one-on-one assistance to students with Autism, ADHD and Challenging Behaviour
- Lead structured interventions to improve student attainment and communication skills
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to suit individual learning styles and abilities
- Promote positive behaviour and help manage challenging behaviour in line with school policies.
- Provide emotional support and encourage social interaction.
- Observe and record progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Report concerns to the teacher or SENCO
- Encourage independence and build student confidence
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Barking and Dagenham
- Experience in a similar role
- Experience working with SEND needs
- Enhanced DBS is required
- Proven ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
