Office Manager (3-Month Contract) – Hitchin

Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Contract Duration: November 2025 – January 2026 (3 Months)
Working Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications

We are currently seeking a highly organised, professional, and personable Office Manager to join a welcoming and well-regarded primary school in Hitchin on a fixed-term basis. This position is available for a three-month period, from November 2025 through January 2026, and presents an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in the day-to-day functioning of a dynamic school environment.

This is a key administrative role and is essential to the smooth operation of the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher, leadership team, teaching staff, parents, pupils, and external agencies. You will act as the first point of contact for the school office, leading by example and ensuring that both operational efficiency and warm, positive communication are at the heart of the school’s front-facing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the school office, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently

  • Provide direct administrative support to the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, including diary and schedule management

  • Line manage administrative and support staff, including delegation of tasks and ensuring completion of work to a high standard

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pupil records, attendance data, and school databases (e.g., SIMS, Arbor)

  • Handle incoming enquiries from parents, carers, staff, and visitors in a professional, welcoming, and confidential manner

  • Coordinate school communications including newsletters, letters home, and emails, ensuring clarity and consistency

  • Liaise with external bodies, including local authority services, contractors, and suppliers

  • Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety, and school-specific policies and procedures

  • Support the management of school events, trips, and logistical planning during a particularly busy academic period

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience in a school office administration or management role, ideally within a primary school setting

  • Strong understanding of administrative procedures and a good working knowledge of school management systems such as SIMS or Arbor (training can be provided if needed)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritise workloads effectively, and work under pressure

  • A warm, calm, and approachable demeanour, with a genuine commitment to supporting the wider school community

  • High levels of discretion and professionalism when dealing with confidential matters

  • Strong IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • A valid enhanced DBS check, or willingness to undergo one prior to starting the role

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to become an integral part of a friendly, supportive, and inclusive school environment. You will be joining the team during a particularly energetic and eventful term, where your contribution will be truly valued. The school takes pride in its positive ethos, strong community relationships, and dedication to the wellbeing of both pupils and staff.

How to Apply:

If you are ready to make a difference in a fast-paced and rewarding role, we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short cover letter outlining your relevant experience and availability to nahid@educatestaffing.co.uk no later than 01 September 2025.
