Location: Stevenage Borough
Salary: ECT / MPS / UPS (dependent on experience)
Contract: Fixed Term – 1 year initially (April 2026 – March 2027)
Working Pattern: Full Time (5 days per week – flexibility considered)

The Role
As a Teacher of English, you will play a key role in delivering engaging and effective lessons that promote a love of language and literature. You will be responsible for maintaining high expectations, supporting student progress, and contributing to the wider life of the school.
Key responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stages (dependent on experience)
Assessing, monitoring, and reporting on student progress in line with school policies
Creating a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
Contributing to curriculum planning and development within the English department
Supporting examination preparation and attainment
Working collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice
Upholding the school’s commitment to consistently strong teaching and learning
For experienced candidates, additional responsibilities may be available, potentially including mentoring, curriculum development, or leadership support within the department. These responsibilities may attract a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR).
Person Specification / Requirements
The successful candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be working towards it
Have a strong subject knowledge in English
Demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons
Have high expectations of student behaviour, progress, and achievement
Be reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous professional development
Be an effective communicator with strong organisational skills
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
