Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8am -4pm
Location: Lambeth
Salary: £96-£105
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Lambeth
This role involves working with children across the school who present with SEMH needs, ASD and ADHD—supporting them in their learning, behaviour, and emotional development. You will work closely with class teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions, lead small group sessions, and occasionally cover classes when required. Your ability to build trusting relationships, maintain firm but compassionate boundaries, and adapt to changing needs will be key to your success in this role.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD
- Assist with the planning and delivery of personalised learning and behaviour interventions
- Support the emotional well-being of pupils, using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to the review of support plans and EHCPs
- Cover lessons as needed in the absence of the teacher, following prepared plans
- Promote positive behaviour and help pupils develop self-regulation and social skills
- Liaise with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Lambeth
- HLTA status or equivalent qualification and experience
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD in a school or similar setting
- Strong understanding of behaviour strategies and emotional regulation techniques
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour with patience, consistency, and professionalism
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
