Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Job Type: 8am -4pm, September Start
Location: Wandsworth
Salary: £96-£105
The Role: Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Wandsworth
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with a child in Reception who requires additional support with areas such as communication, early social development, or sensory regulation. You will help them access learning in a positive and engaging way, supporting their progress both in and out of the classroom. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO, you’ll play an important role in creating a nurturing, structured environment where the child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
A Special Needs Teaching Assistant will be expected to:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Reception-aged child with mild SEN needs, helping them access the curriculum
- Implement tailored learning and behaviour strategies as outlined in the child’s support plan
- Encourage independence and support the development of social and communication skills
- Assist with early years activities including play-based learning, phonics, and early literacy/numeracy
- Monitor the child’s progress and contribute to regular review meetings
- Support transitions during the school day, such as moving between activities and break times
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to ensure consistent support
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils
- Uphold safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
Qualifications and requirements – Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Wandsworth
- Have experience working with SEN children in EYFS
- Be warm, patient, and consistent in their approach
- Understand early childhood development and how to adapt learning to individual needs
- Communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents
- Be able to follow individual support plans and contribute to the child’s progress
- Be committed to promoting inclusion and safeguarding at all times
- Enhanced DBS is required
