Job Type: 8am -4pm , ASAP Start
Location: Bromley
Salary: £96-£120 per day
The Role: School Medical officer – Bromley
As a School Medical Officer, you will be at the heart of promoting and safeguarding the health and wellbeing of students across the school community. Your role will combine clinical care with preventative health measures, ensuring a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment that supports students' academic and personal development.
Working closely with school leadership, pastoral care staff, and external healthcare professionals, you will be responsible for assessing and managing students’ physical and emotional health needs during the school day. This includes responding to minor injuries and illnesses, managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and making appropriate referrals for further care when necessary.
This role requires a high degree of professionalism, empathy, and discretion. The ideal candidate will be an experienced healthcare practitioner who is passionate about child and adolescent health and capable of working independently as well as part of a wider school support team.
A School Medical Officer you will be expected to:
- Provide immediate care for illness or injury during the school day
- Manage and administer medications in line with medical plans and permissions
- Support students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, epilepsy)
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records
- Liaise with parents and healthcare providers as needed
- Oversee first aid procedures and ensure first aid kits are stocked and staff trained
- Contribute to the development and implementation of health and welfare policies
- Assist with immunisation and health screening programs where applicable
- Promote health awareness, hygiene, and wellbeing throughout the school community
Qualifications and requirements – School Medical Officer – Bromley
- Registered Nurse (RGN, RSCN) or equivalent healthcare qualification
- Valid registration with a recognised nursing or medical body
- Experience working with children or young people in a healthcare setting
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS
- Up-to-date knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and first aid protocols
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and record-keeping skills
- Ability to remain calm, approachable, and professional in a busy school setting
