A supportive and inclusive school in Watford is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This role involves providing high-quality support to pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, helping them access learning, develop key skills, and thrive both academically and emotionally. You will work under the guidance of class teachers, the SENCo, and external specialists to deliver consistent, structured, and nurturing support.
The school is looking for someone who is enthusiastic, patient, and passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children. An enhanced DBS (on the update service or willingness to apply) is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with diverse SEN needs, such as autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning delays, social and emotional needs, and sensory processing differences.
Implement and reinforce personalised learning strategies and behaviour support plans set by the SENCo and teaching staff.
Adapt tasks and instructions to help pupils access the curriculum, ensuring they remain engaged and supported throughout lessons.
Support the development of pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, independence, and social interaction skills in accordance with their EHCP targets.
Create a calm, predictable, and encouraging learning environment where pupils feel safe and valued.
Maintain detailed observations, track pupil progress, and contribute to reviews, reports, and meetings.
Assist with preparing teaching materials, resources, and maintaining an organised classroom environment.
Provide support during unstructured times such as break, lunch, and transitions when required.
Maintain confidentiality, adhere to safeguarding procedures, and uphold the school’s values and policies at all times.
Requirements
Enhanced DBS (on the update service or willing to obtain one immediately).
Experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school, childcare, or support setting.
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
Knowledge of SEN strategies, differentiation, and effective behaviour support methods.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and specialists.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of pupils throughout the school day.
Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
Additional training (autism, speech and language support, de-escalation, sensory needs) or a Level 2+ qualification in education or childcare is beneficial.
Benefits
The opportunity to support children with additional needs and make a lasting impact on their development.
A positive and collaborative school environment with strong leadership and effective SEN provision.
Access to continuous professional development, including SEN-specific training and career progression routes.
Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications.
Full-time, term-time schedule offering stability and work-life balance.
Support from experienced mentors, the SENCo, and specialist staff.
A school community that values inclusivity, staff wellbeing, and personalised support for every child.
