Salary: Competitive, dependent on experienceEducate Staffing is currently recruiting for a proactive and knowledgeable Science Technician to join an Alternative Provision school in West Drayton, Hillingdon. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with strong practical science skills who is eager to support both teachers and students in delivering engaging, safe, and accessible science lessons in a specialised learning environment.
This role will start immediately and is being offered on a fixed-term basis, with the possibility of progressing to a permanent position.
The Role
As a Science Technician in an Alternative Provision setting, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the school’s science department. You will ensure all practical lessons are safe, fully resourced, and tailored to meet the needs of students who may have challenging behaviour, SEN, or barriers to learning. You will assist in preparing experiments, supporting teachers, and providing hands-on guidance to students.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and organise resources, materials, and equipment for biology, chemistry, and physics lessons.
Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, glassware, and specialist equipment.
Set up and support demonstrations and experiments aligned with the curriculum.
Provide targeted support to students in practical sessions, individually or in small groups.
Collaborate with teachers and other staff to adapt experiments to meet varied learning needs and abilities.
Support inquiry-led and project-based learning to enhance student engagement.
Contribute to team meetings and discussions about student progress, lesson planning, and department development.
Maintain a safe, structured, and well-organised laboratory environment at all times.
What We’re Looking For
Strong knowledge of practical science across biology, chemistry, and physics.
Experience handling laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals safely.
Ability to set up and demonstrate curriculum-based experiments.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Flexible, proactive, and adaptable to the needs of students and staff in an AP setting.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Previous school-based or lab-based experience desirable, though training can be provided.
