The Role
We are looking for a qualified DT Teacher (QTS required) who can confidently teach across KS3, KS4, and KS5. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about their subject, committed to high standards, and able to inspire students to develop technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging and well-structured DT lessons across all key stages
Teach a range of DT disciplines (e.g. Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics or Engineering, depending on specialism)
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations with effective schemes of work and assessment strategies
Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to ensure continuous improvement
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort and achievement
Contribute to curriculum development and the design of innovative learning resources
Participate in extra-curricular activities, including design clubs, exhibitions, and STEM events
Work collaboratively within the department and across the wider school community
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
A degree in Design & Technology or a related field
Experience teaching DT across KS3–KS5 in a UK secondary school
Strong subject knowledge and workshop safety awareness
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
A commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
Desirable:
Specialism in Product Design, Engineering or similar discipline
Experience preparing students for A-Level or vocational DT qualifications
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and digital manufacturing tools
Willingness to lead or support extra-curricular DT/STEM activities
